Columbus Recycling Program

Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman is proposing a FREE Columbus recycling program that would pick up both yard waste and recycling for Columbus residents on an alternating bi-weekly basis.  The curbside program will be for all single family residents in the Columbus area and Coleman’s plan would allow surrounding suburban communities to join the program at a cost savings compared to their current program. recycling in columbus

The program costs will be $1.44 per household per month for recycling and $1.14 per household for yard waste collection, with the program costs coming from the 2012 budget, with no costs to Columbus residents. The hope is that adding curbside recycling, the city could continue their get green initiative end up saving money in the long run by diverting trash from the landfill and saving on trucks, trash dumping fees and truck emissions.

The recycling and yard waste program would start in first quarter 2012 with those having yard waste collection on Monday being the first residents to start the program and it would be fully up and running by Summer of 2013.

That would be awesome! I hate that recycling is so expensive.

Hopefully it can help more than just Columbus in the end!
